3. Try Products

try products screenshot as an option for how to get free products for reviews from product testing companies

Try Products is another great option if you’re looking for how to get free products from companies to test. As you can probably tell from its name, it lets you do free product testing at home for reviews on the items you receive.

The range of free stuff you can get here is fairly similar to the other companies that give away free products on this list, with things like cleaning products, vitamins, other bathroom items and various food products (including free chocolate!).

What’s great about using Try Products to, well, try products for free is that you’ll often receive full-sized products – no smaller sample sizes around here!

Is Try Products legit?

Try Products is definitely legit. In particular, the Try Products reviews available online are almost universally positive, with many people noting that they have received a range of free review products through this platform. Several users even note that they received these within days of signing up.

Try Products is actually the sister company of Daily Goodie Box, which I mentioned earlier is one of my favorite companies that offers you the chance to test products for free.

This means that while Try Products may be one of the newer sites on this list, it’s backed up by one with a solid reputation in this field and so is definitely worth trying (…no pun intended).

4. Treat Spot

Once your profile is active after you sign up for Survey Junkie, you’ll see straight away if there are any available opportunities to participate in a focus group that you can apply for.

QUICK TIP: Given that Survey Junkie pays up to $150 an hour for this, it’s no surprise that these opportunities are very popular. So make sure you update your settings in your Survey Junkie profile so that you immediately receive an alert once a product testing or focus group opportunity becomes available. That way, you’ll be one of the first in line to qualify for these.

Simply sign up for Survey Junkie, go straight to your settings and click the options you’re interested in. That’s it!

6. Toluna Product Testing

toluna screenshot as an option for how to test products for free

Toluna Product Testing – now called Toluna Influencers – is one of the best ways to get companies to send you products to review for free. You can get all sorts of free items through here, especially things like cosmetics and other toiletries, such as shampoo, conditioner and body wash.

It’s worth mentioning that Toluna is shifting more towards its survey offerings now (hence the name change) so it’s great for earning some extra cash that way too, especially if you’d rather have some money as an alternative to being able to try products for free. However, it does also have free products for reviews still available to give away.

Once you create your free Toluna account, you can then navigate to the “testing” section of the site and apply for one of the offers, which you’ll immediately be able to see as soon as you sign up. You’ll then be chosen at random to be a product tester, with up to 500 people selected for each one.

7. Product Testing USA

Product Testing USA screenshot as an option for how to get free products from companies

Product Testing USA does what it says in the name – sends its members all sorts of free stuff for reviews!

When it comes to paid product testing jobs from home (…ok, perhaps not quite a job, but you know what I mean), this one has one of the biggest ranges of things you can get out there. That is, you may find yourself getting the chance to test products for free like cosmetics, toiletries, electronic devices, fashion and beauty accessories and more.

And Product Testing USA is legit in terms of what’s involved. Simply create a fre profile on their site and, straight away, you’ll be able to see their list of product tester offers that you can apply to. If you’re selected, simply write a review of the product when you get it and you’ll get to keep the product for free!

(As an added bonus: they also have mystery shopping opportunities that you’re also able to sign up for once you’ve set up your profile.)

8. Sample Hawk

sample hawk as a way to get companies to send products to review

Sample Hawk is entirely devoted to getting companies to send you products to review for free, most of which are sample size but you’ll sometimes strike gold with the occasional full size item!

It doesn’t actually send you the products directly. Instead, it’s more like a sample aggregator, providing a one-stop shop where you can find a bunch of different product review sites that you match with.

How it works is once you sign up with Sample Hawk, you’ll be asked to answer a few questions about yourself. This is so they can properly match you with the right products based on who the companies are looking for.

From there, you’ll be directed to the various companies that have free products for reviews available for you, making it a massive timesaver compared to going to each site yourself to see if you qualify.

9. Vindale Research

Vindale Research screenshot as an option for how to do free product testing at home

Vindale Research is another survey site that also has the chance for you to get free products to review. Signing up is very straightforward, although remember to select “product tester” when you’re filling in the application.

Vindale’s dashboard will then let you know from time to time when there are opportunities to test products for free, giving you the chance to apply to receive them. While you’re waiting to be picked for one of these, you can also earn up to $50 per survey you take with Vindale Research, making it one of the more lucrative ways to earn money online.

And to get you started, you’ll get a free $1 sign up bonus just for creating your profile

10. Pinecone Research

pinecone research screenshot as an option for how to do free product testing at home

Pinecone Research lets you review products for free that haven’t been released yet, meaning you’ll be first in line for brand new items. How it works is that you’ll be asked to complete a set of questions about the products you’re sent and, once you’ve completed this, you’ll receive points.

These points can then be exchanged for gift cards from places like Amazon, Starbucks, Walmart or PayPal – which is basically like getting cash, meaning you’re essentially able to review products for money with Pinecone Research.

In order to get companies to send you products to review, you may have to wait until you qualify for one of these opportunities, but you can always use the time to do non-product-based surveys while you wait. Pinecone Research pays $3 per survey so while you won’t get rich doing this, it can be a good way to spend time you’d otherwise be wasting earning a bit of extra cash, like during your commute.

All you do is create a profile and you’ll have access to various free products for reviews that you’re able to claim each month. Once you submit your feedback, you’ll earn “coins” that can then be exchanged for rewards.

What’s good about PinchMe is that you can actually see their available samples before signing up, so you’ll know if you should try products for free with them or go with another site on this list.

They include products like pet food and accessories, personal care items like moisturizer and shampoo, skin products and even Haribo candy, which means having the chance to test products for free here could result in you getting a huge range of stuff.

12. SheSpeaks

shespeaks screenshot as an option when looking for companies that give away free products

SheSpeaks is targeted at women and gives you the chance to get companies to send you products to review in exchange for your opinion on these.

Despite this, the products you can get paid to test are really wide-ranging and aren’t at all “women specific” (whatever that means…). They include anything from food to DVDs, kids’ toys, dog treats, home appliances and more.

The community is also really active, with participants being encouraged to engage on social media and discussion forums about all sorts of topics. This means that not only is this a great chance to get some freebies, but you’ll also have the opportunity to participate in other events too.

13. Influenster

Influenster screenshot as a way to get companies to send you products to review

Influenster is one of the biggest sites out there when it comes to getting paid to test products. Having given away over 50 million products, it’s fairly easy to qualify with Influenster to get something free in exchange for your opinion.

Your range of options will include things like baby products, snacks, beauty items like perfume and makeup, as well as pet supplies.

In addition to applying for these items, you can also do surveys to enter in the monthly draw to receive a VoxBox, which is a box of full-sized items you’ll get for free. These are full of items from major brands you’ve almost certainly heard of and are often worth at least $200, so it’s definitely worth putting yourself in the running.

14. Brooks Product Testing

Brooks Product Testing screenshot as an option for how to get free products to review

Brooks Running prides itself on the quality of its product line and one way it ensures this is by having people test these “in the wild”. This means that, by signing up for the Brooks product testing program, you could find yourself testing shoes and sportswear before they’re released to the market, giving you a great opportunity to get free shoes.

You’ll often be asked to return these after a set period of time but if you’re looking for how to get companies to send you free clothes, even if you don’t get to keep these forever, Brooks provides a great chance to get really quality options for free.

15. GathrU

gathru screenshot is it legit

GathrU is one of the newer kids on the block and is aimed exclusively at college students. All you have to do is sign up with your .edu email address to have a box of stuff sent to you, allowing you to review the products for free that you get.

So if you’re at college and money is tight (so: every college student ever), this could be a great way to get some free stuff in exchange for a review!

Is GathrU legit?

GathrU appears to be legit, as you don’t need a credit card to sign up, reducing the possibility of scams, and the site’s Privacy Policy is thorough. That said, as it’s so new, there are very few GathrU reviews online so it’s hard to tell definitively whether GathrU is a scam or not.

As you can see from this list of other companies that send free products for review, this is a genuine business model. However, you’d be correct to be wary if they asked for credit card details, despite the stuff apparently being free. With GathrU though, that’s not a concern.

It’s also fair to be skeptical about whether a site actually sticks to a Privacy Policy and time will tell as more GathrU reviews are published whether that’s true here. But the fact that they have one is a positive sign and at least suggests that any personal data you provide could be protected in accordance with these terms.

16. BzzAgent

BzzAgent screenshot as a way to get companies to send you products to review

BzzAgent aims to match people with free review products they could be interested in, which it does by having you answer a range of questions about yourself. It will then find companies to send you products to review, including food and beverages, toiletries, cosmetics and baby care products.

There’s a bit more of a focus here on social media than with some of the other companies that offer free product testing at home. That is, you’ll often be asked to upload your opinion as a social media post rather than simply telling them what you think, with images also playing a big part in your review.

Remember that they’re looking for a smart product reviewer, not just one who gives two generic sentences, so the more clever you can make your review, the more likely it is you’ll be testing products for free again with them!

This means that if you’re looking to get companies to send you products to review on Instagram, BzzAgent could be what you need.

17. The Pink Panel

the Pink Panel screenshot

The Pink Panel is primarily looking for women to test and review cosmetics, skincare, haircare and personal care items, so if you’re looking to receive free products for reviews that include any of these types of products, check it out.

What’s good about this is that you’re usually able to keep the product you test. You’ll also be given a reward for completing your product review, which generally includes gift cards or beauty products valued at anywhere between $25 and $100.

Just keep in mind that, in most cases, you have to be located in the US to qualify, although there is the occasional offer for those based in Canada.

18. Home Tester Club

Home Tester Club screenshot

Home Tester Club offers a huge range of ways to get companies to send you products to review, with a massive variety of products being available. You’ll have to answer a few questions about yourself when you create your profile and, based on this, they’ll determine the products that they think fit you best.

What sets Home Tester Club apart from some of the other companies that offer free stuff for reviews is that they’re available in many different countries. This includes Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, France, India, the US, the UK and more.

In addition to having the chance to get free products to review, they also run competitions through their site at least once a month. It’s also a good idea to follow them on social media, as they also have giveaways there too.

19. McCormick Panelist

McCormick Panelist screenshot as a way to get companies to send you products to review

The McCormick Panelist program is mainly focused on having consumers in the US, UK and Canada taste test various food and drink and products.

Some of the testing sessions are done onsite at their testing facility in Maryland, but there are also home testing opportunities, both of which last anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours.

Not only do you get to try the product you’re testing, but they’ll also pay you for your time with Amazon gift cards. For the at-home sessions, you’ll earn up to $30 per hour and if you’re selected for an onsite test, your pay can go up to $50 an hour.

20. MomSelect

momselect screenshot as a way for how to get free products to review

MomSelect is another option for how to get free products from companies, especially if you’re a mom and an influencer. All you have to do is sign up at that link and you’ll be able to start receiving updates from companies that give away free products.

This includes experiences as well as actual items, with some people getting restaurant visits, trips to resorts and even sometimes DisneyLand tickets! It’s also a good way to get companies to send you products to review, with all sorts of kids-oriented products from brands like Play Monster, Crayola and Fisher Price.

21. Vogue Insiders

Vogue Insiders is mainly for people looking for companies that give away free products in the beauty niche. By signing up for this site and providing some basic information about you and your household, you can get access to testers for moisturizers, cosmetics, hair products and more.

What’s good about this option is that you can get companies to send you products without a review being needed. That is, while you may have to take a short survey before getting some free stuff, you don’t usually have to provide any information afterwards, meaning the free products are basically your reward for answering some questions.

22. CrowdTap

crowdtap screenshot

CrowdTap works kind of like a survey site except that instead of earning cash or points for your answers, you can sometimes get companies to send you products to review – or not, in many cases! Yes, often you’ll just get the tester with no further work required on your part, which is a pretty great deal.

They claim that they have over one million users on their platform, although it’s not clear just how many of them have used this site to get free products from companies. It’s also not entirely obvious just when people get free stuff compared to when they earn points or gift cards. This means it may be best to not rely on this one entirely and instead keep it as a back up for when you get sick of the others.

How to get companies to send you products to review

There are a bunch of different ways to get companies to send you products to review. These include:

  1. Become a product tester – A lot of companies (like the ones on this list) have programs where they give away free products in exchange for you reviewing their item. And you’ll often get to keep it once your review is done!
  2. Sign up for free sample boxes – This is when companies send you a range of different items in the one box. They’ll usually be smaller sample sizes but still, free is free!
  3. Create a profile on a site that connects product testers with brands – This basically adds a middleman in your free product search, but has the added benefit of potentially exposing you to way more offers.
  4. Get money back for things you’ve bought – In some cases, if you do a review of an item you’ve bought, the company will reimburse you in full for it!
  5. Sign up for Amazon’s Early Reviewer Program – We’ll explain further below, but this is a great way to get paid to review products through Amazon.
  6. Get rewards for your Amazon reviews – Certain Amazon review sites will actually reward you with free stuff for reviewing products on Amazon.

How do I ask companies to review products for free?

If you’re looking to approach product testing companies directly to review their products rather than following one of the ways mentioned above, you can always try writing to them directly to ask. If you choose to go down this path, make sure you keep a few things in mind when writing your request:

  • Gather a list of companies whose products you actually use as well as your favorite products of theirs – By identifying something you actually use and love, you’ll come across much more convincing when you tell a brand that you’re a fan of their stuff.
  • Find the contact details of the actual PR person – Writing directly to someone is going to be much better received than if you simply contact a company’s generic email address (LinkedIn can be great for this). At the very least, see if their PR team has an email address you can use.
  • Make sure your message is sincere (bonus points for adding a personal touch) – Don’t simply write a generic message about “how you love Maybelline mascara”. Actually say why you like it, including anything interesting that happened when you were using the product. You don’t need to write an essay as your recipient is busy, but it needs to sound sincere.
  • Only ask for a free sample at the end – This is something you’ll want to work up to to put yourself in the best position for the letter recipient to say yes. Keep it light, polite and enthusiastic for why you’d like some free samples.

It does tend to be a bit harder for just any random person to get companies to send products to review, so don’t be discouraged if you’re rejected – or don’t get any response at all.

Alternatively, with a lot of companies looking for bloggers or other people with some sort of following to help promote their product, you probably won’t be surprised to hear that this can make it much easier to get freebies.

Ready to start your own blog? Check out our step-by-step guide on how to start a blog to launch your new site today.

To try to get free stuff for bloggers to review (or Instagrammers or anyone else with a following), the points in the list above still work. However, you’ll also want to include some key stats about your following – things like your page views, where your visitors are from and the number of social media followers you have can all help to convince a brand that your review will offer them value for money.

How do I become a product tester for Amazon?

To test products for Amazon, you’ll need a verified Amazon account. You can then sign up for various websites that let you see how to get free products to review from Amazon.

These aren’t as common these days as Amazon changed its terms of service to limit the possibility of people being able to receive free producs for reviews, to ensure that reviews on its site are legitimate.

However, one option for this that’s still available (and run by Amazon itself) is Amazon Vine, which you can be invited to join as a “Vine Voice” if you’re a top Amazon reviewer.

It’s invitation-only so there’s no way to apply for this. Instead, to qualify, you’ll be assessed based on the helpfulness of your reviews and your demonstrated interest in the types of products featured in the program.

How can I get free products to test?

The best way to get free products to test is to sign up for companies that send out product samples. This generally involves simply providing them with some basic information about yourself. Then, when a product is available for testing, you’ll be eligible to be selected to receive it, with the expectation that you will provide a review.

This does mean that the best strategy to review products for free is generally to sign up for as many of these companies as you can, as they won’t all have free products for you to review all the time. You also aren’t guaranteed to be selected for each round of products.

Sometimes it’s simply the luck of the draw but sometimes certain companies are looking for people in a specific demographic. If you don’t meet it for whatever reason, you’ll have to wait until the next round of product testing.

Do you get paid to be a product tester?

In some cases, you can get paid to be a product tester, which is often in addition to you being allowed to keep the item you’re reviewing. For the companies that offer this, you’ll either be paid in cash or with gift cards, which will usually be worth anywhere between $25 to $100.

Not all of the product testing companies that send you products to review will offer this though, so it’s best to consider this more of a bonus of the product review process rather than an expectation.

You also may find that out of the companies that offer free product testing at home, the ones that don’t pay will have more items available to be sent out. This could mean that, overall, you could get better value from not being paid in addition to getting the product you’re reviewing.

Will companies send you products to review?

Certain companies do send out products to review, with some of them even letting you keep the product you’re testing. Others will also pay you for you to review and test their product.

The products they’ll send you will obviously depend on the type of company they are. So a company like Brooks is clearly going to send sports-related items to you.

Some, however, are more random, especially if it’s a company that’s doing the product testing on behalf of the company that actually owns the product. For example, Ibotta sends all sorts of products, whether they’re food samples, body products (like sunscreen or deodorant), cleaning materials and more.

How do you get companies to send you products?

To get companies to send you products, you should sign up for the companies that offer to send these out in exchange for your review. Plenty of them will send out samples for you to test – and, in many cases, you’ll even be able to keep the products when you’re done.

You can sign up for as many as you want, so the ones on the list in this article are a great place to start. As mentioned earlier, they won’t all have things to send you at the same time nor will you qualify to test every product that they offer.

This is why it can be a good idea to sign up for as many as you can, so you’re best placed to be on the list once these companies are looking for product testers and they’re ready to send out products to review.

How to get companies to send you products to review on YouTube

If you manage a YouTube channel that you believe relates to a specific product and you have a big enough audience to support this, directly reaching out to a public relations person at the relevant company can work well if you’re looking to review a product on your channel. The aim here is to show the value that your channel would offer to their company by featuring their product.

That is, you shouldn’t simply ask them to send you a free product. Instead, you should share some information about you and your channel and how this product would fit well into that.

It’s even possible to get free stuff for small YouTubers. What’s important is how engaged your audience is rather than your audience numbers although, in the case of YouTube specifically, viewing numbers are going to play a big part.

For example, to see how to get free makeup to review on YouTube, check out this video – the tips definitely work for non-makeup products too:

How do you approach a company for a product review?

To approach a company for a product review, there are a few points you should cover in your request to them:

  1. Provide detailed information on you and your audience – Details such as who you are, what your channel or website is about, your audience numbers and statistics on them (such as where they’re located, their age and gender) will all help a company see the value that you can add to them if they were to send you a product to review
  2. Explain how you intend to present the product – A key part of being able to get free stuff from companies is that the companies want to know they’re going to get value for money by sending you a freebie. This means that whether you plan to include your review in a blog post, a video, an image on Instagram or any other option, explain it to them in full.
  3. Describe how you’ll promote your review – For example, if you plan to do a YouTube video but then you’ll promote this on your Twitter feed, include this information (and in this case, sharing numbers like the amount of your Twitter followers helps). All of this goes a long way to showing a company that you’re worth working with.
  4. Let them know what you’ll do with the product after the review – Companies are used to being approached for people simply looking for a freebie. However, if you tell them that you’re, say, going to give the product away as a competition once you’re done with the review and not simply keep it for yourself, they may be more favorable about sending it your way.
  5. Find the right person to send the request to – Ideally, you’d find the specific public relations person who deals with requests like this (LinkedIn is great for this), but even sending your email to a generic PR team email address can help. However, if you’re just sending it to the company’s [email protected] email address, don’t be surprised if you don’t get a response.

Final thoughts on how to get free products from companies

Working out how to get companies to send you products to review is a super easy way to get some new things for free. While the options to get free stuff from companies can be a bit random, if you’re looking for items in the more common categories that these companies offer, like personal care or food and beverages, you’re almost guaranteed to be satisfied with what’s available here.

And if you have a baby or a pet at home, most of these companies also show you how to get free products from companies that will help you with this too.

The fact you simply have to provide a review in response makes this incredibly simple on your part. Just make sure that your review is honest, thorough and submitted on time and you should have no problems in continuing to qualify to get more free products to review.
